Samsung Galaxy S9, OnePlus 6T, iPhone XR … Follow our guide to buying the best smartphones !
Comparative of the best mobile phones of the year
Newbesttips has tested for you the best smartphones available.
For this comparison, we took into account the performance, design, ease of use of each laptop, as well as their functionality and cost.
Android, iOS …, which operating system to choose?
There are several operating systems for smartphones, and here it is mostly personal preferences.
The majority of mobile phones on the market run on Android. The advantage of this operating system is that it is available on laptops of all brands, so there is something for every budget.
If you are a Google user, note that all its services (google map, google drive …) are perfectly integrated with Android.
In comparison, iOS is a niche, but remains no less deserving. Indeed, although the iPhone is less widespread, developers are still focused on creating a version of their tablet applications for Apple brand customers, so the App Store is very well supplied.
For the moment, Windows phones (renamed by the company Windows 10 Mobile) represent only one percent of mobile phones sold in the world, so it makes more sense to go to an Android or an iPhone.
1. Samsung Galaxy S9
The Galaxy S9 is without a doubt the best Android available today. Samsung has successfully combined design, hardware and software to create an attractive smartphone for the general public.
That said, we must point out that the changes to the S9 compared to the S8 are minimal (just a few details on the camera and biometrics).
So, if you want to save money, you can worrylessly choose to buy the model from last year, the price of which should fall rapidly.
2. OnePlus 6T
The OnePlus 6T is without a jack, does not integrate wireless technology and is not waterproof, but it is still among the best smartphones.
Given its superb technical characteristics, its price is quite reasonable. In addition, it displays a beautiful glass design and its Laptops cameras have nothing to envy of its biggest competitors (perhaps only Google Pixel 3).
3. Huawei Mate 20 Pro
The Mate 20 Pro has a large and sublime OLED screen, a battery whose autonomy is particularly high and a very impressive triple photo sensor (placed in a discreet and fine notch).
Its capabilities in terms of artificial intelligence boosts the performance of its cameras.
With the Huawei Mate 20 Pro you will also benefit from the 3D face recognition system, the reverse wireless charging, which can charge other smartphones.
Added to this are stereo speakers, waterproof ratings (IP67) and 128GB storage space.
4. Apple iPhone XS
The iPhone XS is one of the most expensive smartphones of our selection.
Its OLED display is exceptional and its advanced technical features, such as the highly secure Face ID unlock system, make it the most futuristic phone that Apple has ever designed.
Its performance and quality of manufacture are irreproachable.
5. Apple iPhone XR
In terms of price and performance, many consider the iPhone XR as the best iPhone 2018.
Apart from an LCD screen and a single camera, it is almost as effective as the XS, since it features A12 Bionic processor, wireless charging and Face ID. Note that its battery has a very good autonomy.
In addition, it is available in 6 colors, which offers a wide choice to buyers.
6. Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro
At less than 600, the Mi 8 Pro is amazing. It’s powerful (Qualcomm® Snapdragon ™ 845 AIE), it has the same high-performance camera from the Mi8, and the fingerprint reader is built into the AMOLED display.
Design side, it is a Xiaomi, with rounded edges and transparent shell.
7. Huawei P20 Pro
With the P20 Pro, Huawei proves once again that it is part of the big leagues, alongside Apple and Samsung.
If your priority, when looking for a laptop, is the photo, then this model is for you. It also has a very nice screen, a long battery life and is IP67 water resistant.
The P20 Pro is one of our favorite smartphones of the year, even if it lacks a jack or stabilization in 4K.
With its 4000 mAh battery, the P20 Pro is perfect for a day of intensive use. If you are not too demanding, you will probably find that it lasts two days before needing a refill.
8. Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 takes the design of the Note 8 but with a better quality of construction, a larger screen and a fingerprint scanner judiciously placed. And, the 4000 mAh battery adds to this amazing list of new features.
That’s not all since the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is equipped with great photo sensors, a very powerful Samsung software and stereo speakers with incredible sound reproduction.
Also, be aware that if you opt for Note 9 without the S-Pen then it will come back slightly cheaper.
9. Google Pixel 3
The Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL have an exceptional photo sensor, the best ever seen on a smartphone. They are also waterproof, compatible with wireless charging and their battery lasts a long time.
If your main criterion is the photo then Google Pixel 3, or XL, is for you.
10. LG G7 ThinQ
The LG G7 ThinQ is the first smartphone of the brand to embark a Portrait mode
LG still uses an LCD screen in the G7, but the latter is extremely bright and produces beautiful colors.
Among its positives, its price, it is cheaper than its competitors, and its output jack with a Quad DAC for superior audio quality.
It has a waterproof rating of IP68, is wirelessly charged and its mono speaker provides a powerful and accurate sound.
Should I buy a laptop without a package?
If you can afford to buy a laptop without a package, you will save in the long run and you will gain freedom.
The advantage of buying a mobile phone without a contract is that it is not simlocked, so you can use it with any operator and subscribe to a non-binding apple tv 4k subscription at a lower cost.
If you already have a SIM card and want to buy a phone without a package, make sure that it accepts the same SIM card format (Nano-SIM or Micro-SIM).
